I wrote an email last week to my high school senior year english teacher. I became completely frustrated over everything and walked out of the school one day angry. I don’t remember what it was about, but I immediately drove home and decided that I needed to email a former teacher on all of this.
Her response?
In sum, I think you are in the wrong environment to do anything but write a book or movie based upon your first year experience. But, that would be one of the best ways to help the world see that there are schools like the one you experienced, and that in these schools it is impossible to teach. Keep writing about what you did, how you handled the situations, your observations of others, and correlate it with research about teacher burnout. In one summer, you will turn yourself into a future millionaire. When you make it, let’s have dinner and remember when……..
