“Boycott Da Vinci Code film”: top Vatican official

ROME (Reuters) – The Vatican stepped up its offensive against “The Da Vinci Code” on Friday when a top official close to Pope Benedict blasted the book as full of anti-Christian lies and urged Catholics to boycott the film.

The latest broadside came from Archbishop Angelo Amato, the number two official in the Vatican doctrinal office which was headed by Pope Benedict until his election last year.

Amato, addressing a Catholic conference in Rome, called the book “stridently anti-Christian .. full of calumnies, offences and historical and theological errors regarding Jesus, the Gospels and the Church.”

He added: “I hope that you all will boycott the film.”…

…In his address to the group, Amato said Christians should be more willing “to reject lies and gratuitous defamation.”

He said that if “such lies and errors had been directed at the Koran or the Holocaust they would have justly provoked a world uprising.”

What a complete joke. The Holocaust and this movie’s subject are two entirely differant things and the fact that the CATHOLIC CHURCH, of all institutions, wants to bring up the “errors” of the Holocaust is incredibly laughable and embaressing.

The Catholic Church has a full plate of issues to deal with, including sex scandals, and they’re more worried about this movie.

Seems to me the Catholic Church is afraid of people actually thinking for themselves and actually having differant perspectives on what happened. Ditto on their stance with the Gnostic Gospels (more recently, the Gospel of Judas)

I really hate being affiliated with the Vatican sometimes. For me, as a Catholic, it’s just embaressing sometimes.

First and foremost, good riddance to the BG Method’s program. A horrible, horrible experiance this was. And words cannot express the joy that I am feeling right now. I have finished two of the biggest projects I have. The last one is due early next week and that is a piece of cake.

Good. Riddance. You have given me too many long nights, empty bottles of aspirin, and frustration.

Secondly, whoever has the AIM screen name, “BobIsUAOGod” needs to be commended and I must know who that is. Kudos to you.

I really can’t imagine my life WITHOUT an iPod it seems. It’s amazing how I finally have one central location for my music and I no longer have to lug around entire cases full of cd’s, worry about scratching, skipping, and all that other jazz. Quite simply, it’s amazing and I cannot stress how awesome it is.

The downside, however, is uploading all your music onto this little thing. Good Lord. I’ve spent so much time (more time than I probably want to think about) and I’ve got about *maybe* half of my music on there.

What is cool though is that it helps you dig through your albums, and you will listen to music you once totally loved and then forgot about. Case in point: The Apex Theory. They had a great album, Topsy Turvy, and I forgot how awesome they were. If you like System Of A Down, but don’t like the vocals, and some of the heaviness, they will probably be right up your alley.

I have finally caught up with the rest of the world and now own a brand spanking new, 30GB iPod. It’s sharp, it’s sleek, and amazing. I’m so happy I spoiled myself (for a change).

I simply could not resist the power of Steve Jobs and Bono.

President Bush refused on Tuesday to rule out nuclear strikes against Iran if diplomacy fails to curb the Islamic Republic’s atomic ambitions.

Iran, which says its nuclear program is purely peaceful, told world powers it would pursue atomic technology, whatever they decide at a meeting in Moscow later in the day.

Bush said in Washington he would discuss Iran’s nuclear activities with China’s President Hu Jintao this week and avoided ruling out nuclear retaliation if diplomatic efforts fail.

Asked if options included planning for a nuclear strike, Bush replied: “All options are on the table. We want to solve this issue diplomatically and we’re working hard to do so.”

I wonder if anybody in this administration actually thinks and uses logic. Why was this guy voted in again?

Maddox has his own book coming out. One of my dreams in life is to write my very own book. But I’m not so sure now that I want to carry that task out because this book could very well fulfill everything I could ever want in a book and would cause me to never pick up a pen and write because my book could not compare to his.

And don’t even get me started on the book cover. It is mindblowingly awesome.

This book is all about men and what men like. It’s written like a reference book, read like a bible. Some parts of the book will be instructional, like a “how-to” guide. Ever wanted to know the steps to drop-kicking someone in the face? You bet your ass you have, and I will tell you how in my book. Other parts of the book will serve to document personal instances of manliness, giving you insight into the reason women from miles around migrate to my man cannon (hint: it’s to get banged). I have manliness down to a science.

The only thing that's missing here is a bear

Oh, man. The new Tool is just flat out amazing.

I cannot wait until their new album comes out. Yeah, sure, it always takes them 5 years (literally) to come out with a new album. But it's always amazing regardless.

If there is one thing South Park is good at, it’s that it can bring out a really great social commentary. Sure – it’s a cartoon, and there can be some offensive and crude things, but through each episode, you can usually find sharp, biting and honest commentary on any number of issues ranging from religion, society, politics, or whatever.

The last 2 episodes, The Cartoon Wars, have been great examples of that. While the humor was put on the back burner a little bit (at least I think so anyways), the commentary and points Matt and Trey got across more than makes up for it.

There’s a double standard held by many in entertainment, the media and in the Islamic community, and they totally exploited it and brought it to light.

According to Islam, showing an image of a prophet is prohibited. But there has never been this type of controversy over images of Buddah, Jesus, Moses, etc. You know, it’s totally OK to have a picture of Jesus and him crapping on everyone (and basically doing with his image as we please, as shown in Wednesday’s episode), but if we show a simple image of Mohammed, well – all hell breaks loose. Not only does this offend me as a Christian, but also as a logical human being. The world should not bend to the ideological views of a select few. THAT is how terrorism breeds and thrives.

As they’ve stated in these past couple episodes, you can’t draw lines in the sand, it is “all or nothing”.

Student during my last period of class today: “Mr. Rice, I have something to tell you. You’re a better teacher than many of the teacher’s I’ve had in the past.”
